"A coup for Great Southern to have mencia rolling around its region, more so from this outstanding site. Hits medium weight perfectly, rippling with tart black cherry juice, light and lithe in grippy, granitic tannins, sappy with blood orange and amaro-laced acidity, a stony perfume with potpourri, game meat and cherries on song. Whoosh! Mencia here we come. It feels refreshing and structured at once, a serious red wine of textural appeal and plenty of character. Tasting Notes
Deep, saturated crimson with purple hues. The nose is aromatic and lively with hints of salted liquorice, charcoal, satsuma plums and iodine. The palate is reminiscent of inky black fruits of blackberries and cherries and is plush, yet elegant with a medium bodied intensity. Silky fine tannins support a bright lively textural finish.

Vineyard Notes
Mencia from dry grown, vertically trellised vines from our Swinney Powderbark vineyard. Mencia is new to Western Australia and originates in the Galician regions of north western Spain. The use of shadecloth on the afternoon sun side of the vines, rigorous shoot positioning and careful bunch selection further refine the unique expression so critical to the personality of this fruit.
Production Notes
The fruit was hand-picked, and gravity fed to an upright French oak demi-muid. We incorporated 100% whole bunches followed by wild fermentation to build structure and texture while promoting the bright and spicy aromatics. The wine spent 10 days on skins prior to being pressed directly to large format, six-year-old French oak, followed by aging for 11 months prior to bottling. The wine was made with minimum effective Sulphites, is unfined and minimally filtered.
