"There is no question that this vineyard and the style being crafted under one of Australia’s finest winemakers, Rob Mann, have redefined syrah and grenache. These are now the established benchmarks and should be on the buy-now list for anyone with an interest in contemporary Australian wine." Ray Jordan, The West Australian, Feb 2021.

“Perhaps it was inevitable that a stunning rosé would emanate from the celestial Mourvèdre vines at the Swinney vineyards in Frankland River. Well, this is it – and it is nothing short of breathtaking. I have never tasted a finer Australian Rosé, and it is all the more gripping that it is not made from Grenache!”
Matthew Jukes, The Buyer UK
"Syrah from Frankland River from one of the best grape growers in the area. Beautiful red. Composed, flush with berried fruit, peppery, ferrous, smoky and more simply delicious. It’s all set on tight strings of tannin but the succulence of the fruit keeps the momentum high. Peppercorn, plum, blueberry and florals; what a combination. Gorgeous." 95 pts

The 2020 'Franklands' Cabernet Syrah commemorates 100 years of our family farming at 'Franklands', our property on the banks of the Frankland River.
"Jumps out the glass, but not a fruit-bomb. Perfumed dried herbs, bramble fruit, cedary oak and blackcurrant leaf. Impeccably balanced. The taste is wonderful, but the mouthfeel is king. Luxurious and plush, without being ostentatious. Flavours of bay leaf, toasted oak, cassis, rose petal and graphite roll over the tongue for minutes. A surprise package and beautifully crafted." 96 pts

From a stellar vintage that produced outstanding wine quality across all varieties with concentration and vibrancy, great acidity and structure.
Striking pale straw with green hues. The nose is intense and aromatic with Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, beeswax and oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with lively pithy citrus fruits of pomelo and lime in addition to lychee and green papaya complimented by a spine of slaty acidity and a moreish briny dry finish.

"Fragrant, highly perfumed and thoroughly delightful opening of this bouquet. The fruit intensity is stunning especially when you consider the medium palate weight. It’s such a vibrant and pure expression of the vineyard with a distinct ironstone, grainy character evident. Lifted red rose petal fruits with a trace of raspberry brightness. A distinctly linear wine with a high chalky acidity. Love it." 96/100

"This is a variety that is finding a safe, comfortable home in Frankland River. Lovely perfumed red fruits on the nose displaying a slightly earthy, dusty raspberry and light plummy character. The palate is soft and supple. It’s medium weight with a fine chalky ironstone thing treading through the palate. The cradle of tannins and fine oak, together with natural fruit energy holds a focused long finish." 95/100

"This is part of a triumvirate of wines that showcases the vineyard and winemaking that have crafted these super wines. This is not your fruit bomb Aussie shiraz. This is syrah and there is more than a little Old World style here. The fruit shows an almost luminosity that bursts from the glass. The palate picks up the vineyard characters with its ironstone gravelly rusty characters complementing the bright red fruits. You sense vineyard here with a deft touch of the winemaker simply coaxing a little more out of it." 96/100

“…I cannot think of a more delicious or complete Mourvèdre on earth.”
Erin Larkin, robertparker.com, April 23
"The 2021 Farvie Mourvèdre is the first iteration of a varietal Mourvèdre in the Farvie range since its inception in 2018. In the glass, the wine is light—one can almost see through it. It is light to medium-bodied, sure, but shaped by gritty, firm, tight-knit tannins. My first feeling is that this has a Barolo edge to it, which I find both deeply interesting and pleasurable at once. It is fine, floral and firm. There are notes of rose petals, tar, grit, resin, tobacco leaf, mulberry leaf and white pepper. The length unfurls in the mouth and is reminiscent of mineral European reds—Piedmonte over Chateauneuf-du-Pape, if I had to choose one for reference. This is fresh, vital, exciting and modern, an exceptional wine. Let it grow on you, because grow it will." 98/100

"The 2021 Farvie Syrah is lighter and finer than the Mourvèdre, yet it is darker in the glass and more mouthfilling. I suppose, in some ways, the flavor profile here is more expected, yet the tannic structure of the thing is more refined and sleek than I have seen in previous vintages. There are notes of blackberry, star anise, iodine, blueberry, licorice and a slash of bone broth. It also has black pepper and aniseed, but not in the warm-climate framework that we are used to seeing/experiencing from regions like Barossa or McLaren Vale. It is odious to compare, I concede, but important from a contextual standpoint. This is Frankland, with its own signature. Syrah continues to be sourced from the two blocks—Powderbark and Wilsons Pool, both home to the WA clone—the Houghton massal selection. This saw no new oak (as per usual), and comes in at a very modest 13.5% alcohol. It is a profoundly elegant wine now, but it will only be better, more complex, more svelte and more complete as time wears on." 97+/100
