2018 Swinney Syrah Mourvedre Grenache

2018 Swinney Syrah Mourvedre Grenache

The fruit was hand-picked from our Frankland River vineyard in separate lots as flavour and tannin maturity was optimum and each lot sorted by hand and crushed into small open top fermenters. We incorporated 15% whole bunches and wild fermentation to build structure and texture as well as highlight the distinctive personalities of the fruit from each parcel. The wines spent up to two weeks on skins prior to pressing directly to fine grained large format French oak (25% new), as separate lots, which were blended and bottled after 11 months in barrel. The wine was made with minimum effective sulphites, was not fined and only minimally filtered.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet with purple hues, dark and inviting with fresh blueberry and satsuma plums, couverture, slight white pepper and coal dust. A plush and velvety structure supports the distinct blueberry fruit aromas. Lavish, polished tannins provide an excellent backbone to the lively and expressive fruit characters. The wine is medium to full-bodied with a rich texture balanced by a savoury, dry and mouth-watering finish.

Reviews

Jeremy Oliver, www.jeremyoliver.com, Aug 2019

Savoury and artfully balanced; deep, inky and sour-edged cassis, cranberries and blueberries, cedary oak and fine, slatey tannins. 94 pts

Huon Hooke, www.therealreview.com, Aug 2019

Deep, bright red/purple colour. Strong pepper and dry Eastern spice aromas, the red and darker fruit aromas beneath. The wine is medium to full-bodied and intense, with firm upright structure and a lovely core of sweet fruit. Abundant tightly-bunched, finely-textured tannins linger well, in harmony with the flavour.  95 pts
